Dec 2008

Last summer we asked members of the local community what they thought about Laing O’Rourke’s ideas for regenerating the remaining derelict land at Steetley, to provide a balance between job creation and nature conservation. Hundreds of local people gave their views and these were considered by planners.

In December 2008, Laing O’Rourke submitted an outline planning application to Bassetlaw and Bolsover District Councils for the creation of an ‘Offsite Manufacturing Hub’.
This means the company wants to sensitively redevelop the site at Steetley to potentially house the most advanced manufacturing complex of its kind in the UK.
The plan would create hundreds of jobs and opportunities for an area which has a proud industrial heritage, and a local workforce which is ready to learn new skills.
It would position Steetley as a centre of industrial excellence, supporting Laing O’Rourke’s objective to drive the future of the UK construction industry.
